FORSYTH COUNTY -- Fans lined up March 29 in Borders on Peachtree Parkway to get up-close and personal with "American Idol," season five finalist, Ace Young.

Jaime Scott, who drove from Elberton to meet Young for the first time, said she fell in love with him when she saw him on "American Idol."

"He is known to give hugs, but just to be able to say I've met him would be cool" she said.

After 2 p.m., Young greeted the crowd to sign copies of "Chicken Soup for the 'American Idol' Soul" and chat with fans, but he had another surprise. With his guitarist along, Young performed acoustic versions of a few songs from his self-titled, debut album, "Ace Young" to be released June 3.

Young said after "Idol" it was important to him to make sure when he tackled the music industry he did it right.

"I'm at the starting line of a career I have wanted since I was 9 years old," said Young. "So that's why I've taken my time. I realize how important it is to make sure it's right, true to me and up to my level of expectation. I only get one chance to tell my fans who I am."

Since "Idol," Young has traveled across the U.S. performing with his band and writing music. He earned a Grammy nomination for his collaborative effort on fellow "Idol" contender, Chris Daughtry's hit, "It's Not Over."

'I'm at the starting line of a career I have wanted since I was 9 years old. So that's why I've taken my time. I realize how important it is to make sure it's right, true to me and up to my level of expectation. I only get one chance to tell my fans who I am.'
And for his album, Young aligned himself with some big names in the industry such as Andreas Carlsson and Desmond Child, and he co-wrote seven of 11 songs. Diane Warren contributed a song for the album as well.

Recently he finished shooting the video for his first single, "Addicted," something he said he's excited about it.

"It's the first video to use a new technology, promotional cameras that show twice the detail as high definition, and I can't wait to get it out," he said.

April Wilkins, who said she has been a fan of Young's since he stepped on the "Idol" stage, was at Borders to see him for a second time.

She said his singing is not the only reason she admires Young.

"He's also a very nice person, and he's very charitable," said Wilkins.

And it was Young's charitable spirit that motivated him to pen a story for "Chicken Soup for the 'American Idol' Soul."

Young got involved with charity work many years ago after his brother, Ryan, broke his back in a car accident.

"He had to learn to walk again, so giving back is a big thing for us," he said. "It was a privilege for me to write my story."

Now Young said he is doing exactly what he has always wanted to do, and in 10 years, he said he hopes to be doing the same thing.

Young's self-titled debut album, "Ace Young," will be released June 3.

Young will guest star in the May 12 episode of the Fox Network television show "Bones."

Young, along with other "American Idol" finalists, fans and others contributed stories of inspiration to "Chicken Soup for the 'American Idol' Soul."

Young is the new celebrity Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Jerry's Kids.

Fan-based organization, Highrollers with Heart, raises money to benefit The Children's Hospital in Denver.
